Driving
Punch address into your navigator or just cruise down Alii until you see five patio tables with red umbrellas on the mountain (mauka) side of the road. There is a parking lot right next to the building. Even if it is full pull in and the staff will show you the overflow parking.
Taxi & Uber/Lyft
A taxi from the airport to My Hawaii costs approximately $40. There is a taxi stand at the airport just outside of baggage claim.
There is Uber and Lyft service in Kona. Depending on time of time it ranges from $30-40. If you arrive late at night it may be difficult to find an Uber/Lyft so if you see an available taxi, take it. If you are looking for Uber/Lyft refresh the app as many drivers turn on and off their availability if they have other riders.
Shuttle Van
There are a few shuttle companies that operate shared shuttle service to and from the airport.
Book in advance on their website. Select My Hawaii Hostel as destination. Approximately $40 one way.
Hele-On Bus
Hele-On is the Big Island public transportation bus system and they have recently expanded their services! So it is possible to get to and from the airport using the Hele-On, All public buses on the Big Island are free. For more info check out Hele-On Mass Transit. You can find the Hele On schedules on Google Maps.
To get from the airport to the hostel requires transferring from the Hele On bus to the Kona Trolley. To get to the hostel you will ride the bus from the airport to behind Target, then catch the Kona Trolley. Ask the driver to drop you at the Kona Bali Kai. The hostel is about 100 meters back toward town from the bus stop.
The Trolley leaves from behind Target every hour on the hour so if you wanted to shop for groceries you could take the next Trolley.
The latest bus from the airport to town is 8:27 pm so if you arrive after this you need to take alternative transport.
